When an event or series of events happen and send us into a repetitive “fight, flight, freeze” response, it becomes harder to tap into that innate wisdom. We can find ourselves more easily triggered and reactive whether it’s hyper-arousal (anxiety, hyper-vigilance) or hypo-arousal (disassociation, depression).

Breaking from these patterns requires more than talking ourselves out of it. You can’t think your way out of a feeling because the nervous system is responding/reacting to threats (perceived or real) before the brain ever catches up.
